Metro North is a commuter rail service in the New York City area. It operates on of trackage owned by Amtrak and Metro-North Railroad, which are both subsidiaries of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The MTA owns all the rolling stock on Metro North, but leases it to the two companies.

How to purchase a ticket
You can purchase your Metro North ticket in many ways:
-You can use the Metro North eTix app to buy tickets with your smartphone. Just download the app, set up an account, and then choose the type of ticket you want to buy. You can even buy tickets for someone else!
-If you don’t want to use the app, or if you’re buying a ticket for someone who doesn’t have a smartphone, you can also purchase tickets on the Metro North website. Just choose the type of ticket you want and follow the instructions. Tickets will be emailed to you, and you can print them out or show them on your smartphone.
-If you’re already at the station, you can purchase tickets at the Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs). TVMs sell all types of Metro North tickets, including single-ride, round-trip, weekly, and monthly passes. Just select the type of ticket you want, insert your payment, and take your ticket!
How to activate a ticket
If you have a physical ticket, you will need to activate it before boarding the train. You can do this one of two ways:
-Visit an MTA eTix kiosk. These are located at select stations (New Haven, Stamford, Harlem-125th St, Grand Central-42nd St, and Yonkers). Tap your phone on the NFC logo on the lower left hand side of the screen to begin. Follow the prompts to sign in or create an account (if you do not already have one), then select “Activate Metro-North Ticket.” Swipe or insert your credit/debit card to pay the $5 activation fee, then follow the instructions on screen to complete the process. You will know that your ticket has been activated when you see a confirmation message and hear a beep.
-If there is not an eTix kiosk at your station, or if you prefer not to use one, you can also activate your ticket by purchasing it through the MTA eTix app. Open the app and sign in or create an account (if you do not already have one). Select “Buy Tickets,” then choose “Rail” as your ticket type. Enter “Metro-North Railroad – Hudson Line” as your rail operator. Choose the number of tickets you need, then select “Add to Cart.” Tap on the cart icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select “Checkout.” Choose your payment method and enter your billing information, then tap “Submit Payment.” Once your payment is processed, you will see a confirmation message and hear a beep letting you know that your ticket has been activated.
How to use a ticket
You can purchase your Metro North ticket in a number of ways: online, through the mail, or in person. The best way to purchase your ticket is through the Metro North website. You can also purchase your ticket at any Metro North station, though it is important to note that some stations haveticket machines while others do not. If you are purchasing your ticket from a ticket machine, be sure to have exact change as they do not accept bills.
If you are purchasing a ticket online, you will need to create an account with Metro North. Once you have done so, you can log in and purchase your tickets. Be sure to print out your tickets or save them to your phone as you will need to show them to the conductor when boarding the train.
If you are mailing in your payment, be sure to include the correct fare as well as any additional surcharges that may apply. You can find the current fares and surcharges on the Metro North website. Once your payment has been processed, you will be mailed your tickets which you will need to present when boarding the train.
How to renew a ticket
You can renew your ticket online if you have an account with the MTA eTix app.
-First, open the app and log in to your account.
-Then, select the “Tickets” tab from the menu at the bottom of the screen.
-On the “Tickets” page, find the ticket you want to renew and tap on it.
-Tap “Renew ticket” at the bottom of the ticket information screen.
You can also renew your ticket by calling the Metro North Railroad customer service number at 1-800-METRO-INFO (1-800-638-7646).
How to refund a ticket
There are several ways to get a refund for your Metro North ticket.The first way is to go to the Metro North website and fill out a refund form. You will need to provide your name, address, phone number, email address, and the reason for the refund. You will also need to include your ticket number.
If you bought your ticket online, you can log into your account and request a refund that way. If you bought your ticket at a station, you can mail it back to the address on the back of the ticket along with a completed refund form. If you bought your ticket through another company, such as Amtrak or NJ Transit, you will need to contact them directly for a refund.
You can also visit any Metro North station and speak to a customer service representative about getting a refund. They may be able to process the refund for you on the spot or give you further instructions on how to proceed.
How to replace a ticket
If you have an expired, damaged, or lost ticket, you can replace it by calling the Metro-North Railroad General Information number at 511 and using a credit card to purchase a new ticket. You will be charged a fare for the new ticket plus a $10 fee for the replacement.
How to upgrade a ticket
If you have an eTix account, you can upgrade your ticket to a higher fare using the “upgrade” feature in the app. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Select the “My Tickets” tab in the app.
2. Find the ticket you want to upgrade and tap on it.
3. Tap “Upgrade.”
4. Choose the fare you want to upgrade to and tap “Continue.”
5. Enter your payment information and tap “Pay.”
How to cancel a ticket
If you need to cancel your Metro North Railroad ticket, you can do so through the MTA eTix app or website. There is a $10 cancellation fee for all tickets, so be sure to plan ahead when possible. How to check the status of a ticket
If you have an etix account, you can check the status of your ticket there. If you purchased your ticket from a station ticket window or a ticket vending machine, you can call the Metro-North Railroad Customer Service Center at 877-690-5114 to find out the status of your ticket.
