Introduction: US Green Card holders can now travel to Costa Rica
We are pleased to announce that starting November 1, 2019, US Green Card holders will be able to travel to Costa Rica without a visa. This change is the result of a new agreement between our two countries and will make travel between the US and Costa Rica easier and more convenient.
This is great news for travelers planning a trip to Costa Rica, as it means that they will no longer need to apply for a visa in advance. Instead, they will be able to simply present their Green Card at the airport when they arrive.

We also suggest that you take a copy of your Green Card with you when you travel, just in case.
We hope that this change will make travel between our two countries easier and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
What is a Green Card?
A Green Card holder (permanent resident) is someone who has been granted authorization to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis. As proof of that status, a person is granted a permanent resident card, commonly called a “Green Card.”
The steps to becoming a Green Card holder vary by category and are governed by U.S. immigration law. In most categories, the applicant must have sponsored by a family member or employer in the United States.
How to Get a Green Card?
U.S. citizens and legal residents can now travel to Costa Rica without a visa, thanks to a new agreement between the two countries. The agreement, which went into effect on June 1, 2018, allows U.S. citizens and legal residents to enter Costa Rica for up to 90 days without a visa.
In order to qualify for the visa-free travel, U.S. citizens and legal residents must have a valid passport and proof of onward travel (such as a return ticket or ticket to another destination). They also must not have any criminal convictions that would make them inadmissible to Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a popular tourist destination for Americans, and the new agreement is expected to boost tourism from the United States.
