Green Lane Travelers in the Philippines – An Introduction

Since the announcement of the Philippines’ Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in mid-March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all travel to and from the Philippines has been suspended. In late May, the Philippine government announced that it would allow a limited number of travelers – dubbed “Green Lane” travelers – to enter the country starting June 1, 2020.

Green Lane travelers are those who are coming to the Philippines for essential business or official purposes. They must have a Letter of Intent or supporting document from their company or agency indicating the purpose of their travel, as well as a Travel Authority issued by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate where they will apply for their visa. Once in the Philippines, Green Lane travelers will be required to follow strict health and safety protocol, including daily temperature checks, wearing of face masks and shields at all times, and observance of social distancing rules. They will also be required to download and use the Trace Together app for contact tracing purposes.

Green Lane Travelers in the Philippines – Why We Do It

We are a group of friends who love to travel. We started traveling together in 2006 and since then, we have visited many different countries. But in recent years, we have started to focus more on eco-friendly and sustainable travel.

Why? Because we believe that tourism can be a force for good. It can help preserve local cultures and traditions, support local economies, and create opportunities for meaningful interactions between travelers and locals.

But tourism can also have negative impacts – on the environment, on local communities, and on the traveler themselves. So we want to make sure that our travels are having a positive impact. And that’s why we focus on eco-friendly and sustainable travel.

What does that mean? For us, it means 3 things:

1. Reducing our impact on the environment
2. Supporting local communities
3. Connecting with locals in a meaningful way

We believe that by following these 3 principles, we can make our travels more sustainable and more responsible. And we hope that our example will inspire other travelers to do the same!

Green Lane Travelers in the Philippines – Our Impact

Since 2008, Green Lane Travelers has been working with partners in the Philippines to promote environmental awareness and conservation. Our programs aim to educate Philippine youth about the importance of protecting their country’s natural resources.

We believe that it is important to involve local communities in our work, as they are the ones who are most affected by environmental issues. We also believe that education is key to promoting sustainable development.

Through our programs, we have reached over 10,000 students and community members across the Philippines. We have also trained more than 100 teachers on how to incorporate environmental education into their classrooms.

Our programs have had a positive impact on the Philippines’ environment. For example, one of our projects led to the planting of more than 2,000 trees in an area that was previously deforested.

We are proud of the progress we have made in the Philippines, and we will continue to work hard to ensure that our programs have a lasting impact on the country’s environment and its people.

Green Lane Travelers in the Philippines – Our Future

The Philippines is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world. Nearly one third of its plant and animal species are found nowhere else. These include the Philippine eagle, the world’s largest eagle; the tamaraw, a diminutive buffalo found only on Mindoro Island; and the pygmy forest hog, one of the world’s smallest pigs.

The Philippines is also one of the world’s 18 megadiverse countries, which are defined as those that harbor 70% of the Earth’s species and contain at least 0.5% of its total landmass. Megadiversity countries are essential to maintain global ecosystem functions and processes because of their high levels of species richness and endemism. The Philippines’ 7,641 islands have an area of 300,000 square kilometers and a coastline that stretches 36,289 kilometers—longer than that of any other country in the world.

The country is divided into three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Luzon is the largest island and home to the country’s capital city, Manila. Visayas is a group of seven major islands in central Philippines, and Mindanao is the southernmost island group.

The Philippines has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 26.6°C. The rainy season lasts from June to October, while the dry season runs from November to May. The Philippines is vulnerable to typhoons (locally known as “bagyo”), which typically occur during the rainy season.

Green Lane Travelers in the Philippines – Get Involved

The Philippines is a beautiful country with so much to offer tourists. However, it is also a country that is plagued by poverty and poor infrastructure. This is where green lane travelers can make a difference.

Green lane travelers are those who travel to developing countries to help with projects that improve the lives of local people. These projects can be anything from building houses and schools to providing medical care and teaching English.

If you’re thinking of traveling to the Philippines, there are many ways you can get involved with green lane travel. You could volunteer with an organization that is already working in the Philippines, or you could start your own project. Either way, you will be making a difference in the lives of so many people.
