The Green Pass is valid for one year from the date of issue and can be renewed for an additional year.
Once you have your Green Pass, you will need to present it at the border control when you enter Italy. You will also need to show your passport and travel insurance. After you have been cleared by border control, you will be given a stamp in your passport indicating the date of entry and the expiration date of your Green Pass.
Make sure to keep your Green Pass and stamped passport with you at all times while in Italy. You may be asked to present these documents by police or other officials. If you lose your Green Pass, you can obtain a replacement from the nearest Italian consulate or embassy.
Tips for Using Your Green Pass
If you are a Citizen of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, you can use your Green Pass to travel freely throughout the Schengen area. The Schengen area is comprised of 26 Member States that have agreed to allow free movement of their citizens within the area.
To use your Green Pass, you will need to show your passport or national ID card at the border crossing. You may also be asked to show proof of travel insurance and/or sufficient funds for your stay.
Once you have entered the Schengen area, you will be able to move freely between the member states for a period of up to 90 days. Please note that this 90-day period is cumulative and includes any time you may have spent in the Schengen area in the past 6 months.
If you plan to stay in Italy for more than 90 days, you will need to apply for a long-stay visa from the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your home country. For more information on long-stay visas, please see our website.
