Our History
Green Tortoise Travels was created in 1995 with the central idea that group travel could be more fun, interesting and affordable then traveling alone or with a big tour company. We are now in our 25th year of operation and have carried over 150,000 travelers on trips all over the world.
The Green Tortoise administrative office is based in San Francisco, California. Our primary focus has always been providing great adventure travel experiences in North America and we offer trips to most of the National Parks, as well as urban adventures in cities like Seattle, Vancouver and Los Angeles. We also offer unique cross-continental bus expeditions linking destinations such as Alaska & the Yukon with the Lower 48 States, or Mexico & Central America with Canada & the Pacific Northwest. These longer bus journeys provide our guests with an in-depth exploration of North America’s diverse landscapes and cultures.

We use biodiesel-fueled buses and vans, which significantly reduces our emissions compared to other modes of transportation. We also offset 100% of our carbon emissions.
