What is Green Travels?

Green Travels is a social initiative started by the students of MIT Pune in October 2009. It aims at spreading awareness about the need to protect our environment and promote the use of public transport in Pune. The initiative was started with a cycle rally from MIT to Shaniwarwada.Since then, Green Travels has grown by leaps and bounds. Some of the recent activities undertaken by Green Travels are as follows:

1) A workshop on ‘’Reducing your carbon footprint’’ was organized on 7th February,2010 at SIES college, Nerul. This workshop was open to all students from across colleges in Mumbai. It aimed at informing the students about ways in which they could reduce their impact on the environment.

2) An exhibition on ‘’Environment and You’’ was set up on 13th February, 2010, at Phoenix Market city, Kurla. This exhibition displayed various posters and charts created by the students of MIT which highlighted the need to protect our environment.

3) A workshop on ‘’Herbal gardening” was conducted on 20th February, 2010 at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Matunga. This workshop showed students how they could grow their own herbs without using chemicals fertilizers or pesticides.

The Purpose of Green Travels

A lot of people ask us what the purpose of Green Travels is. We tell them that our purpose is two-fold – first, to promote environmental awareness and responsibility among students, and second, to provide students with an opportunity to see firsthand the beauty and diversity of our country’s natural environment.

Green Travels was founded in 2010 by a group of college students who were passionate about protecting the environment. Since then, we have grown into a national organization with chapters all over India. We now have over 200 volunteers who work tirelessly to promote our cause.

We believe that it is important for young people to be aware of the issues facing our environment today, and to learn about what they can do to help protect it. That is why we offer a variety of programs and events throughout the year, including field trips, workshops, and campaigns.

So far, we have taken students to some of the most beautiful places in India, including the Himalayas, the Western Ghats, and Ladakh. We have also organized campaigns to raise awareness about issues such as climate change, water conservation, and plastic pollution.

We are always looking for more ways to engage with students and spread our message. If you are interested in learning more about Green Travels or getting involved with our work, we would love to hear from you!

Green travel is any form of travel that has a low impact on the environment. This can include everything from walking and cycling to public transport and carpooling. Not only is green travel good for the planet, it can also be good for your health!

There are many benefits of green travels, including:

-Reduced pollution and congestion
-Improved air quality
-Less noise pollution
-More physical activity
-Saving money on fuel costs
-Reduced carbon footprint

The Importance of Green Travels

The idea of green travel is becoming increasingly popular as people become more aware of the need to protect our environment. Green travel is any form of travel that has a low impact on the environment. This can include anything from using public transport instead of flying, to staying in eco-friendly accommodation.

Pune’s Vighnaharta, or the “Victory Tower”, is one of the most important landmarks in the city. The tower was built in 1801 to commemorate the victory of the Maratha general, Daulat Rao Scindia, over the Peshwa Baji Rao II. In 2009, the tower underwent a major renovation and was converted into an eco-friendly structure. The Vighnaharta is now Pune’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building.

There are many other ways in which you can make your travels more green. You can choose to stay in eco-friendly accommodation, use public transport where possible, offset your carbon emissions, and support local businesses. By making small changes to the way you travel, you can help to make a big difference to the environment.

The History of Green Travels

Pune’s Vighnaharta is one of the most famous and recognizable landmarks in India. The statue, located in the center of Pune, stands tall at 33 feet and is a popular tourist destination. But Vighnaharta’s story goes beyond its physical presence.

The history of Green Travels dates back to the 18th century, when Pune was the capital of the Maratha Empire. At that time, the Maratha Empire was ruled by Shivaji Maharaj, a great warrior and military leader. One of Shivaji Maharaj’s generals was Dhanaji Jadhav, who was nicknamed “Vighnaharta” (meaning “destroyer of obstacles”).

After Shivaji Maharaj’s death, Dhanaji Jadhav continued to serve under the new Maratha ruler, Sambhaji Maharaj. However, after a disagreement with Sambhaji Maharaj, Dhanaji Jadhav left the Maratha army and joined forces with the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

In 1689, Aurangzeb sent Dhanaji Jadhav to attack Shivaji Maharaj’s son Rajaram Maharaj at Fort Panhala. Although Dhanaji Jadhav was successful in defeating Rajaram Maharaj, he was killed in battle. As a result of his death, Aurangzeb lost an important general and the Maratha Empire regained control of Fort Panhala.

In 1730, Peshwa Bajirao I ordered that a statue be built in honor of Dhanaji Jadhav at the site of his death. That statue is known today as “Vighnaharta.”

The Origin of Green Travels

Green Travels – Pune’s Vighnaharta, also known as the “Green God” is a unique eco-friendly initiative started by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in order to encourage the use of public transport and reduce vehicular pollution in the city. The project was launched in 2010 and has been a great success so far, with over 1 million passengers using the service every day.

The project uses a specially designed double-decker bus which has been retrofitted with a green roof, solar panels and an advanced filtration system. The bus services are available free of cost to commuters and run between major bus stands and railway stations in the city. In addition to this, the PMC has also set up special parking zones for Green Travels buses at key locations.

The project has been hugely successful in reducing traffic congestion and pollution levels in the city, and has inspired similar initiatives in other Indian cities such as Mumbai and Delhi.

The Significance of Green Travels

Merging the spiritual with the practical, Pune’s Vighnaharta is a unique travel service that aims to make pilgrimages more sustainable.

Vighnaharta – which means “remover of obstacles” in Sanskrit – was set up in 2013 by husband-and-wife team Rahul and Neelima Joshi. The couple, who have been practising Hindus since childhood, had become increasingly aware of the environmental impact of religious tourism, and wanted to do something to make pilgrimages more sustainable.

“We realised that there was a lack of awareness about the environmental impact of religious tourism,” Rahul Joshi told Green Travel Media. “People didn’t think about things like the amount of water they were using when they took a holy dip in a river, or the pollution caused by all the candles and oil lamps that are lit in temples.”

The Joshis decided to set up Vighnaharta as a way to help people travelling on religious pilgrimages to reduce their environmental impact. The company offers a range of services, from providing eco-friendly pilgrims’ kits (including reusable water bottles, solar chargers and biodegradable toiletries) to offering advice on where to stay and what to do to minimise your impact.

Vighnaharta also runs eco-sensitive tours, which include activities such as tree planting and rubbish collection, as well as visits to sacred sites. The tours are open to people of all faiths – the Joshis want to show that sustainable tourism is not just for Buddhists or Hindus, but for everyone.

The Future of Green Travels

With more and more people becoming interested in sustainable and eco-friendly travel options, the future of green travel looks bright. Pune’s Vighnaharta is leading the way in this trend, with its unique combination of luxury and environmental consciousness.

This five-star hotel was built with sustainability in mind, from the use of locally sourced materials to the solar panels on the roof. Guests can enjoy beautiful views of the city skyline while knowing that they are contributing to a greener future.

The hotel’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop there – they also offer a range of green travel services, from electric car rental to cycle tours of the city. Whether you’re looking to offset your carbon footprint or just want to explore Pune in a more eco-friendly way, Vighnaharta has you covered.
