Introduction

A green card allows a foreign national to live and work permanently in the United States. If you have a green card, you can travel outside of the U.S. for business or pleasure, and you can usually reenter the U.S. without any problems. However, there are some exceptions and conditions that you should be aware of before you travel.

Applying for a Green Card

If you want to live permanently in the United States, you can apply for a Green Card (Form I-551).

A Green Card gives you permission to live and work permanently in the United States. You will need to have a Green Card if you wish to become a U.S. citizen.

If you are a permanent resident, you are sometimes referred to as a “Green Card holder.” You can be a permanent resident of the United States if you meet certain requirements:

There are a few options for Traveling with a Green Card in the Caribbean. One is to travel to the British Virgin Islands, which are part of the UK. You can also travel to other parts of the Caribbean that are British territories, such as Bermuda and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Another option is to travel to a country that is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), such as Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.

Central and South America

There are many countries that you can travel to with a green card, including Central and South America. With a green card, you will be able to travel to any country in Central or South America for up to 90 days. If you want to stay for longer than 90 days, you will need to apply for a tourist visa from the country that you wish to visit.

Europe

If you have a Green Card, also known as a Permanent Resident Card, you are allowed to travel to many countries around the world. One continent you can visit with this card is Europe. There are many countries on this continent that accept Green Card holders, including:
